The beginning of the year seems a long time ago now, but
our first Deanery event was on Sunday, llth January, when we celebrated
Christ's Baptism in Sherston church, painting glass jars to contain lighted
candles and making paper banners, followed by a service when the candles in
the jars were lit. About forty members attended and many of them
enjoyed the painting and paper.
On Friday, 23rd April, we held our annual spring cakestall at Malmesbury
Market Cross to make money for our Deanery funds - it was as usual
successful and enables us to hire a coach when we want to attend functions
in Bristol, as we did for the Commissioning on March 25th and also for the
Picnic on the Green on 18th September.
On Wednesday, 26th May, we held our Deanery Festival in Kington Langley
church, and were delighted to have Rosemary Thomas with us. Kington Langley
church is small and ideally suited to our small deanery. The evening
Eucharist was followed by refreshments at the home of the Archdeacon of
Malmesbury, whose wife, Jen, was our excellent speaker at the service.
We had a summer outing to Lydiard Park on Monday, 14th June, when we
visited Lydiard House which has some interesting historical exhibits, were
given lunch by members of Lydiard Tregoze branch, and a guided tour with
Joan Rumming of the really beautiful and historic church, followed by a
short service.
On July 7th we had our usual I.M.P.C tea party at the home of Doreen
Smith in Sherston. This is always a very happy occasion, and this year we
welcomed Rosemary Thomas and Pat Dale, which was a great pleasure.
We shall have our coach outing to the picnic in Bristol on 18th
September, where our exhibit in the Cathedral will be Worship, and on
Friday, 8th October, we have our autumn cakestall in Malmesbury in aid of
Caring at Christmas, We are a very small deanery, but we do arrange quite a
number of events.
